I heard some dog people not from training schools say that dogs aren't meant to run that way. I.E. if you are running and encouraging a dog to run it could drop dead from just trying to please you. However, I should think maybe a dog could work up to it. They usually run in bursts. Otherj than that, if you are really running, you would have to rehearse with it getting around obstacles without maybe stopping and you having the good reflexes to do it. Would you think you would want someone to spot you to see if you are doing things that could be a problem from their perspective. I am finding my best way to run so far is if I am hanging on to a bungie cord or resistance bands and going ahead of a person running with me. I think most marathons and 5Ks are not where there are curbs but, rather, in streets and roads that get closed, though I may be clear off on that one.
