Here in the state of Colorado, there's no rules for certification either.
When I contacted Freedom Services Dogs to looking into having odie be a
medical alert service dog, they just told me I needed an orange vest that
can be purchased from Sit Stay, obedience training and Good Canine
Citizenship test which Odie has already gone through it during his training
at Pilot.
During July of 2007 when I did go to a national convention in Minneapolis,
MN that was hosted by GDUI, Odie was also enrolled to the Good Canine
Citizenship test which he did pass with flying colors on the first try.
His certificate hangs on the wall neatly inside of a picture frame.
Freedom Service Dogs also recommended them providing a statement and having
mine and Dale medical doctor write up a letter to specify Odie's work.
I was also told that in order for Odie to be able to be a medical alert
service dog, he needed to be under control and on his best behavior at all
times which he does well for the most part.
Yes, he still has his stubron moments where he just wants to be Odie as
usual.
