Hi Lyn, You are correct. Poodles have hair and not fur. When I went to Pilot Dogs, I had a black standard Poodle named Skip. And yes their hair is so soft. And when I went to get Skip groomed I had the groomers give him a puppy cut like you described in your post.. Take care. Lori and theGipper
