Hmm, Mark

I agree with the folks who are advising you to either change food or at 
least cut down on the treats.  New dogs get stressed, nothing wrong with 
that, but maybe gradually weaning the dog off of treats, or at least to a 
different type of treat would solve the loose stool issue.  I'm not sure 
what you're using for treats, but something with more fiber like green beans 
or even carrots would be good.  If you're treating him while you're working, 
you'd need to find something that's easy to carry and access when needed.

When Katy goes on concrete I can pick up after her without leaving a huge 
smudge behind because her stool is so firm.  Of course, there are times when 
it's not, and in those cases I'm sure I leave something behind, but unless 
someone is crawling around on the concrete it's not a huge deal, especially 
if it's an occasional thing.

Would your school have the same response with gum or someone emptying a soda 
or coffee on to the concrete?  I'm betting not. Plus  as others have pointed 
out, a car leaks all kinds of nonbiodegradable substances that have a worse 
impact on the environment and no one seems to care.  And come to think of 
it, I never see drivers picking up after their cars.  <grin>

Besides that, two things come to mind here.

First, who is giving you grief about your dog's deposits?  Are they citing 
some kind of school regulation having to do with health or appearance?  If 
so, I'd ask to see those regs.  Is this a student worker or someone with a 
bit more pull?  Who is this person's supervisor?  perhaps a discussion 
higher up the bureaucratic food chain would clarify things.

Secondly, are the complainers positive this is your dog's droppings? 
Because unless they watched you pick up and miss a piece and leave a smear, 
how do they know for sure the remnants are from your dog?  You said this was 
an alley, right?  Who's to say what stray dogs or other quadrupeds are 
running around leaving little presents?

I had a situation similar to this with my first dog.  I lived in a very pet 
friendly apartment complex.  Besides myself, there were several other dog 
users.  We dog users were always getting notes from the management about how 
we weren't picking up after our dogs.  I was accused of leaving things 
behind in places my dog never went.  Then a friend sitting on my second 
floor balcony just so happened to see someone, not a blind person, BTW, let 
their little puntable object stop, drop and plop and then go on it's merry 
way with no attempt to pick up at all.  When this was brought to the 
management everyone was shocked because they supposedly had a very strict 
pick up policy.  Naturally, the blind person is the easy target because it's 
not like we would know for certain that everyone else wasn't picking up 
after their dog.

This isn't the first incident of a college having a very uh, anal attitude 
when it comes to dogs and their droppings.

I hope you can get this resolved with a minimum of fuss.

I'll try anything once, especially if it's chocolate covered!
