Portia,

That's very exciting!  I hope that you and your partner will be happy 
together.

I've never attended a guide dog program, I train my own, but I'm not so 
sure that they allow guests to stay with you during your training.  I 
have heard of couples going through the program at the same time, but 
it's pretty rare.  You will each have specific needs in a dog and the 
program will need to place you in a class where there are dogs that they 
think will work for you.  Looking for the right dog that matches your 
needs can take a few months, but I hope you are able to get in quickly 
and that your partner is also able to attend.
