Slippery Elm is a mucilagenous herb which means that when mixed with water, it will coat the area with a kind of jelly which promotes healing. It also contains antiinflamitory properties. It is frequently given in capsule form when wishing to treat bowel issues, or in a hard losenge form for people wishing to use it to sooth throats. You can also use it externally to treat wounds.
Usually I give a large capsule or 2 small capsules, depending on what size I have around. I buy the bulk herb and just fill my own capsules. But you can buy ready-made capsules from a place like iherb.

I know someone asked what people who use natural remedies do for a dog with stomach upset. I'll tell you what I do. First, if my dog has been vomiting for longer than 12 hours I will take her to the vet. If she has diahrea, I will fast her for a day and then the next day feed ground turkey or other low fat meats. My dogs are on a raw diet so they don't eat any grain. I will feed this low fat ground meat for a day doing several small meals and making sure everything is coming out ok before moving back to raw meaty bones. I tend to use herbs and herbal teas with a dog who has this issue. Slippery Elm as mentioned and Chamomile or gingger in a tea or glycerite for nausea.
