[nagdu] Bad handlers

Hi Mardi and Natalie,
How I solve the problem of my dog being interfered with while I'm out is
that I correct my dog and say NOTHING to the person doing the interfering.
If they get mad because I corrected the dog, I just say that THEY caused the
correction so why are they mad at me. They then shut up and keep their
hands to themself.

People DO know that they shouldn't bother service dogs because so many will
preface theior actions with, "I know I shouldn't but..." That tells me that
most people nowadays know better but they just don't think about what they
do or they don't care about what they do.

Mardi, maybe if Shaman finds himself getting corrected for approaching
people, he will start to ignore people and the people will start to ignore
him. I find that people tend to be unsure about an aloof dog and tend to
now want to pet them. The friendly dogs who give the eyes and look for
attention from people will get the petting. I saw this for myself when I've
had some dogs that look for attention and others that didn't look for
attention. My dogs do learn that they must work in spite of the "drive by"
pettings they get. What I find much more of a concern is that people let
their pet dogs bother my dog or are off leash and come up to my dog while
I'm crossing a street.

I'm talking from my own experiences and not telling you how to handle your
own dogs.

Cheeers,

Lyn and Landon
