Hi Bibi,

I am not sure what problem you are having. Every state has laws which
prohibit taxies from carrying blind passengers accompanied by guide dogs.
There is no negotiation here.

Some people do attempt to make reservations in advance of their arrival at a
taxi pickup location, and they tell dispatchers about their guides. The
problem is that if the company or dispatcher is inclined to be uncomfortable
about a guide dog then the advanced notification gives them time to make up
illegal and inappropriate rules.

If you want to reserve a taxi in advance then do so. However, leave out any
discussion of using a guide dog. It is not relevant so long as your dog
behaves and acts appropriately. If you think your dog won't fit in the taxi
with you and a bunch of others then reserve more than one cab, but again the
mentioning of a guide dog is not only not necessary, but it can cause
unnecessary problems.

No matter what you do or not, there is no guarantee your trip will be as
seamless and as easy as you want. This is true whether you are blind or
not, or whether you use a guide dog or not. By the way, Reno is not that
small of a city. They have cabs, and large buildings housing all those
casinos.

Best,

Michael Hingson

Hi, all,
I'm in an odd situation here and would like some ideas or advice, please???
My friend Natalie Orrell and I will be going to Reno, Nevada to attend the
American Blind Bowlerling Association tournament championdships May 27/june
2, 2012.
My husband Dale was willing to help with some of the research and contacted
a taxi company in Reno, Nevada.
He was informed that the taxi companies are smaller than in a city like
Denver, Colorado.
A representative told my husband that they don't encounter a lot of service
dogs, so am not sure where to go from here?
I want to make sure that Natalie and I are able to have a safe, quick trip
to the hotel from the train station.
Unfortunately, the airport shuttle will only go from the airport to the
hotel.
I'm probably not making much sense here, so feel free to ask me any other
questions if need be.
