[nagdu] How Many Routes With Planned Traffic Checks at Your School

Waht I recall when I was at TSE in 2004 was that planned traffic checks were done throughout the training. It was only durtailed if it felt that the dog was starting to get hesitant about entering the street, suggesting that the dog clearly understood what it needed to do. And of course, unplanned (also called natural) traffic checks were also the norm, though the instructors try to wait until about the second week to allow those to happen during the training trips.

Hi everyone,
I am very interested in knowing from graduates of a variety of schools
whether your school had an instructor provide a planned traffic check and if
so how many routes or outings this happened on. I am not comparing in terms
of being judgmental, but I am curious as to how various schools handle this.
Having only been to Seeing Eye, I don't know first-hand what other schools
do and am very interested.

My memory from 2002 is that Seeing Eye has someone do traffic checks on 2 or
3 days, probably 4 or 5 routes. Does this sound right to more recent grads?
How about other schools?

Looking forward to learning,
Terrie

Yes. I would say the traffic training is like that of other schools. I'm not
sure what this other practice is. When I've talked with people from other
schools about their experiences with traffic training, they've seemed very
much like what I've experienced on class at GDF.
