Hello Pauline,
I am a college student paying rent and bills. Therefore, I know what
you mean about having a fixed income. As for my dog, I end up paying
about $38 for food which last about a month and a half. She gets
groomed once every 3 months because I brush her almost every day, so
she stays clean. Her grooming costs about $45. That includes a bath
with shampoo and conditioner, getting her nails clipped, and they trim
her fur if it gets to be too long. Toys last her a long time so I
would say a new toy once every 5 or 6 months. The specific brand her
school requires ranges around $13 per toy. Her vet bills are paid for
since the school she comes from provides veterinary assistance for all
their dogs. The only vitamins she is required to be on are about $6
and they come with 300 capsules which will last about 10 months. So if
you budget your money right, having a dog isn't so bad after all. If
you have any other questions, feel free to ask me off list. My email
