[nagdu] Bandanas and winter coats

They actually had a vet on a morning news show that said that dogs can over heat and actually get heat exhaustion from wearing coats. When I had a vizsla I did put a coat on because she had no fur. The only time I have experienced much shivering is having to stand and wait for long periods outside which can typically be avoided. Some dogs do get colder than others, then there are those that shiver for attention too.

He'd be fine when he was free to run around outside, but in harness when we'd be moving slower and waiting for traffic, he'd shiver...a lot. Jetta is a Doberman and has even less fur than Monty. she's going to need a dog parka.
>>
>> Even with his coat Monty will still shiver sometimes, expecially when we are standing waiting to cross a street. Even in the heated house he will find the warmest place to curl up and keep warm.
>>
>> The other thing is that although dogs have fur that was meant to keep them warm in winter, none of our dogs lives outdoors. They need a fair bit of outdoor time to truly get aclimated to it. So their thick winter coat never grows in as thick and warm as it would if they lived primarily outdoors.
>>
>> I have come from believing that dogs don't need coats, ever, to accepting that some dogs will benefit from a coat. I am still very opposed to cutesy coats that draw undue attention to our guides though. It's too close to dressing up your dog like a doll and that I am strongly opposed to.
