hi i feel working together with my dog mya is good,
i take time with her, we take our time to learn and grow, together, as team members,
she does her, job, and i do mine, i do use the leash, to comrect,
her, but i offen use my voice, for the commands too,
 and i use treets,
 when needed,
 it all works great, though,

Anyway, I was just reading the thread on control vs. dog problems, and I echo the sentiments expressed by Julie J., Suzanne Clothier, (whose materials I'd like to acquire as well), and others. I've found a gentle pat or verbal, "No, Liam, leave it," and then the request for a more desired behavior. For example, when I was taking him out to tap his system, he became dog distracted. A "no dogs; tap your system" followed by a strong "good boy" on completion of the desired behavior, put it right. Conversely, I will use a sharp "ah-ah" if undesired behavior is getting out of hand, and will incorporate a leash correction when necessary; though it's rare. I always balance it out with "good boy." He likes to anticipate where we're going. When this happens, I'll tell him, "No, Liam, no restaurant, store, whatever, today. Good boy, though, thank you," and then a "there you go," when we get back on track. Interesting thread. I find a more team-oriented approach works better instead of one of us trying to dominate the other one. Hope this all makes sense.
