This almost happened to me back in the 80's.  I was walking by a gas
station, which was on a corner, with my cane.  A pickup truck cut through
the gas station to avoid the light at the corner, missing me by inches
literally.  Out of anger  I swung my cane and hit the back of the pickup.
The guy got out and came over and literally had his arm and fist back, ready
to punch me.  I said to him -- still to my disbelief,  what a brave man you
are,first you almost run me down, and now you are going to beat me up.  He
swore, got in his truck and much to my relief, drove off.
