Tami,

You were right.  Some people were saying that they put the dog into a 
sit or down stay, drop the leash  and walk through the metal detector 
without holding onto the leash.  Others do the sit or down part, but 
hold the end of the leash as they walk through.

The original question was if all the programs teach proper airport 
security procedures.  For me it's the word "proper" that is where the 
difference lies.  I think all of the programs teach some sort of airport 
procedure and I'm sure they'd all say it's "proper".  However there 
isn't exact agreement on the specific procedures to be used.

I've only ever flown with Belle and I honestly cannot remember what I 
did.  I can say I would never dream of letting go of that girl's leash.  
Not unless I wanted to create a giant kerfuffle.   *smile*  When I go 
through non airport security with Monty, I have him sit and stay, drop 
the leash and walk through myself.  He's trustworthy off leash.  I know 
he will come straight to me with no detours.  If I was uncomfortable 
with the security personnel or if there were a lot of people around that 
I thought might mess with Monty, I would hold onto his leash.  We don't 
live in a highly populated area though, so there are usually very few 
people at security checkpoints out here.
