[nagdu] rest for the soul...good or bad?

I do think it's good to keep some sort of routine slightly like at school.
For example, at the Seeing Eye, one usually takes two trips per day, so,
that first week especially we do two trips a day. They may not be long
trips. Also during that first week, I start in increments of 10 minutes to
move the wake-up time up from 5:30. During that first weekor first weeks, a
trip means putting the harness on and walking. This can be incorporated
into whatever schedule I have that day and believe me, my schedules change
all the time. Even after a dog is with me for a while, I still keep the
basic school routine--feeding twice a day--around 7, 4 regular park times
plus any additional ones and those are kind of at the same time the school's
were. However, sometimes, my dog won't be fed at the usual time so they
know that sometimes due to whatever is going on, they won't be fed at the
usual time always.

But, that first week especially, I keep close to the school's routine.

Hi Daniel,
Congratulations on your new dog! Yes, training can be very exhausting. I
don't think a few days of light work will hurt Irene. When I came home from
training in 2009, I took about a week to recover /smiles/. We still did
short walks in the neighborhood and trips to stores and doctor offices.

Hey guys! I just got back from the seeing eye with my new dog, Irene, a
golden retriever/black lab mix. Down at the school, training was pretty
tiring because we were going all the time but now that I'm back home, I'm
not going so much for a bit. My activity level will pick back up in about a
week when I move out for college and start learning new routes and what not.
My question is (probably pretty stupid to ask): is it bad for my dog to get
about a week "off"? I mean, we'll still be working and what not just.not too
terribly hard.

Sorry if this is too dumb of a question. It's just something I didn't ask
down at the school.

Thanks,

Dan
