[nagdu] crossing highways alone with your guide

Wow I can't believe there is no pedestrian control there. I have gotten
stuck on the median before too and it seems to always happen on a weekend.
They change the timing of the lights on the weekend so they are shorter.
You could get in touch with your local highway department and start the
process to get a light there. It takes a long time and you need to get
more than one person who is affected by it to show its unsafe.

Thanks Julie. There are no buttons at these intersections so we usually
just walk fast.. At some I can cross with parallel but others you go on an
all quiet and there's a median in the middle which sometimes you wait and
cars are going perpendicular behind me as well as in front of me.

well yes I live at an intersection of 2 4 lane highways. Are you at a
place with traffic control lights? If they have buttons you need to press
them and wait until your parallel traffic starts. Then the light at least
here gives you 1 whole minute! If you walk at a pretty normal speed of at
least 1 mile and hour you should reach the other side in plenty of time.
If you don't press the button then you better run because it gives you less
time. Just tell your dog to the curb or the ramp just like crossing any
other street.

> Hi all. I was wondering if any of you have crossed highways independently
with your guides? There are 2 major highways in my neighborhood and along
these highways are different places I like to go. Learning the routes are
not a problem for me even though I don't have the best sense of direction.
I used to freak out when I get lost but don't as much as I used to. I'd be
interested in any of your experiences with dealing with highways and pikes.
