Deana,
I wouldn't tell the agent to say anything about the guide dog. People have
weird misconceptions about service dogs and the agent could be causing you
to not get an apartment. I had a rehab counselor tell potential employers
about my guide dog and I nevert got one single interview!
When most people hear "dog" they think of their unruly, untrained dog at
home or ones they see around. They think of the irresponsible tenants with
dogs that crap all over the landscaping and the owner's failure to pick it
up. They know NOTHING about our dogs - behavior, training UNLESS they
happen to have a friend who has a service or guide dog.
DO NOT even let the person tell prosective landlords that you are even
blind! Let the apartment managers just see what you present when you meet
them. That way, they can ask questions and you can give the expert answers.
I have rented apartments sinse 1972 without ANY problem at all - ever. And
this was before any ADA laws. And my roommate always brought her guide dog
and I always brought mine aftert I started using them.
Good luck in your apartment search.
