[nagdu] discussion concerning my letter to the board of directors of Guide Dogs for the Blind

Hi,
I just want to jump in here and make a comment regarding follow up. Yes, I am very unsettled by the recent happenings at GDB. But, I wanted to mention that GDB did have a conference call just after the staff cuts, although it didn't really put any of the graduates at ease. But, it did answer a few questions.
As far as the follow-up and support from the school... For me, I still got the follow-up I needed just a couple of weeks after the changes. I was having some major issues, which thankfully I have worked out with hard work and perseverance. I have also had very good luck with the new Graduate Support Center. When I had called with questions, I always spoke to someone immediately or they quickly returned my call.
Now, I know a lot of people haven't been so fortunate, but for me it's seems to be working satisfactorily for now...
I do hope that the petition will help.

Absolutely. As a matter of fact, SE is hosting a conference call on June 15 to update graduates and answer questions and it will be the CEO who is a Seeing Eye dog graduate himself along with the Director of training and instruction who has 30 years of training Seeing Eye dogs.

Tina,
Leader Dog did the same a few years back when the financial crisis started to impact the organization. However, with good graduate student input and support from everyone, it is a much stronger organization now than ever.

There was a letter sent the SE board of directors by the graduates and the board responded to questions both in writing and via conference. Also, staff was made aware that there would be cut backs as well as layoffs way ahead of time and most importantly, graduates are continuing to receive follow up
services via telephone and in home visits. The situation with SE is
totally different from what's going on with GDB.

Mike,
We should have written as soon as we heard about the lay offs.
