Jewel,
I attend a major university in Philly. my disability office had no issues with me using or having a guide/service animal on campus. Now I will say that the disability office, did put it in accommendations that I be able to use a dog and that they werre aware of the pup. Not because they had a problem with it, but if there was any question about it. Clearly my pup wears a harness, is well behaved, but still some folks haven't understand that I am blind, and that she is working. It was more that they put into my accomendations to cover there bums. All of the security personal in all of the buildings were notified that she was a guide dog, this was only after several security guards harassed me, and would not premit my entrance to abuilding. Those guards were fired right away. And security guards are now trained on the subject. Also there hasbeen some discussion on my campus about where and not I can allow the pup to do her business. My campus has some very special gardens and areas, these areas I am of course not allowed to use. I have specific areas I know where to take her to relieve, and other places I know to avoid. I always pick up, so this has never been the issue. The disability office and I have had long long discussions about all of this, and they approve. For the professors, way before the semester has even began, I begin a conversation with the professors I will have. I mention that I have a dog. I don't mention it because I feel obligated, but because there are times my dog snores, or moans, or groans, shakes. And I don't want the professor to be alarmed. Usuallyi require more space for me and the pup, as in like desk or seating space. many of my professors fall in love with my pup. Only if I am asked to present on guide dogs as a project, do I talk to the other students about my guide. other wise no one questions, asks or even bothers us. The nice thing is that I am in a very specific major with about the same students for the last few semesters, so they all know me, know my pup.
I also got my pup from GDF. They will work with you on a college campus, as many times as you like.

They told me I would have to bring paperwork from the school, such as the certificate that GDF provides, to demonstrate that this is a legal service animal. Then, before I can bring the dog to class, he or she will have to be added to my accommodation list, requiring a review by disability support officers. I would also be required to tell my professors in advance or I would not be allowed to bring my service animal. From being on this list, I have learned my rights under the ADA, and none of this seems to fit with those legal rights. An I missing something or should I fight them on these requirements?
