[nagdu] Crates and barking

I think whether or not a crate will help is dependent on a lot of
factors. If the dog is barking at something, like alert barking, then a
crate could help. the crate physically seperates the dog from whatever
he's barking at. So if the dog barks at the mailman every afternoon
when the mail is delivered, putting the dog in the crate half an hour
before time will almost certainly eliminate the dog barking at the mailman.

Now if the dog is barking because something is missing, like separation
anxiety, then whether or not the crate would help would be less
predictable. Maybe, maybe not. I think it would really depend on how
much the dog liked his crate. I have two dogs, Belle and Monty. Belle
hates being crated and will bark her resistance. Monty absolutely loves
his crate and often chooses to go in there to nap, relax, hoard his toys
etc. I can't remember him barking in his crate. If he has, it has been
a long, long while ago.

Dogs bark for lots of reasons. It follows that different reasons for
barking will have different solutions to stopping the barking.
