[nagdu] What is a canny collar?

A Canny collar is a head collar similar to the Halti or gentle leader.  It 
has the nose loop and a buckle collar portion that connect under the dog's 
chin.  the main difference with the Canny collar is that instead of the 
leash attaching under the dog's chin, it connects at the back of the dog's 
head.  When you pull the leash the pressure is more evenly distributed, 
instead of pulling the dog's head to the side like most of the other head 
collars.

There are two things that concern me greatly about the Canny collar.  I do 
have one and will no longer use it for these two reasons.  First, in order 
to keep the collar positioned correctly, you pretty much have to keep a 
slight pull on the collar or it will come off of the dog's nose.  The other 
even worse problem with this collar is that there is no stop on the collar 
adjustment. All of the other head collars I've seen will only allow the 
leash to pull them closed so far until a plastic piece stops the nylon from 
slipping through the tightening mechanism.  The Canny collar doesn't have 
this.  You can keep on pulling and pulling until you seriously injure the 
dog.

Maybe this isn't a deal breaker with a guide dog, because they are generally 
well behaved and the collar is being used for a fairly subtle refinement of 
behavior.  But imagine that you have one of these collars on your dog and he 
dives for something on the ground, you aren't expecting it and don't give 
enough slack in the leash.  the leash will pull the nose strap tight across 
the dog's nose, forcing it down.  If this is done too forcefully or too 
quickly, it could damage the dog's spine.

I think the head collars that connect under the dog's chin are a much safer 
option.  They still need a gentle hand and you have to be mindful of how you 
are moving the dog's neck.  Still if I use a head collar it is the under the 
chin sort.

Hi all,
A couple of people asked this question, but it was never responded to (as 
far as I know). So, what is a canny collar? Is it like a Gentle Leader or 
Halti?
I've also heard people talk a bit about the Infinity/E Z collar recently.
