Hi Shannon,
No wonder you had concerns; min had to do with "marking," especially
me, but Huck is a grand dog; if I over-step him, sometimes, he won't hup-up
to the curb, so I am really watching that, and he has initiate which
irritates my sighted friends, but I have absolutely no intention of teaching
"follow" as a formal command; if they can't give directions, we'll go where
we think they are.
Darla & handsome hardworking Huck

I don't think gender makes a difference. Male dogs are just as good as
females. It's temperament that really matters.

My concern about male dogs grew out of a lot of bad experiences I had
growing up. My father is a fan of really big, really aggressive male dogs.
So, when I was told I was being matched with a male, that was the picture I
had in my head. Acelet is nothing like my father's dogs. He's small,
weighing in at 56 pounds. His temperament is super sweet. Once he gained
confidence, he became a great worker.

difference if the dog is male or female. For a good guide dog. I know that
police like male dogs because they are more independent and females want to
be by the officer and protect him.
