A friend of mine thinks there's an Aha! moment sometime in class when the
dog realizes that this is not a game anymore, and that what they do really
matters to this new person in a way it never did to their trainer. There
was a dog in my class who couldn't take the stress, and flaked out, but most
seem to rejoice in it. Or so I've always felt.
Ben, on the other hand, often seems to say sure, he'll take care of me, when
he's done with whatever interests him. Though, if I go out with my cane, he
always gives me the big Hello when I get back. "You went without me!
That's not right! You need me to keep you safe!"
