[nagdu] Lack of speed

Forgive me if I repeat what others have said. When Chase slows down, I talk
to him in an excited voice and he speeds up. I usually have a running
monologue of praise going anyway. "Good dog. Good Job. You're doing a
good job." But when he hears me say it with emphasis and excitement, he
picks up speed.

The distraction problem I have with him is other dogs. For that reason, I
also began using the gentle leader. It allows me to redirect his head away
from other dogs. It also allows me to gently pull his head up when he
begins to scavenge.

I have used the leash technique of giving him a gentle pull forward when
he's confused or inattentive. It's been pretty effective. I usually follow
that with lots of rewards when he does what I want.

I know the feeling of frustration to which you refer. I'm betting most, if
not all, of us guide dog users have felt that at one time or another.

Best of luck.

Craig and Chase.
