[nagdu] Scavenging and Sniffing

Tracy,
When I went to GDB in 2009, we worked on obedience and food distractions every day. Even during class lectures, we would put some type of food on the ground near the dog, so they could ignore it while laying quietly.
>From what I've heard now, they do not do obedience as a daily exercise. I think they just encourage the handlers to practice in their free time. I think that daily obedience is very beneficial, and wish it was still part of the GDB curriculum. This is just what my friends have told me who have attended GDB recently.

It was my impression that GDB spends a lot of time working on food distractions, which made sense to me, since they use food rewards and would want the dog not to be distracted by other food. But I see some GDB graduates saying they're having trouble with scavenging, so am I wrong about GDB spending a lot of time on it?
Not blaming anyone; just trying to have an accurate picture in my head. My Seeing Eye dog Benny can be quite the crumb hunter, under some circumstances. TSE didn't spend any time on food distractions, at least not in my class.
Tracy
