I don't think there is really any difference because I have used them interchangeably. You may be right about the dog not listening, though I have found they do if the person happens to use them with authority. I cared for a dog once while the guy had someone lead him to the restroom in an airport, and the dog was very obedient for me, though he was a little anxious. I just wouldn't want to haul a crate of any kind with me if I could avoid it. I am the one who would maybe not end up using the sana.
