Daryl,

Under NO circumstances should you accept paying for alternative
accommodations elsewhere because a hotel or motel violates the law.

Personally, I do not like to disclose that I travel with a guide dog. Such
a disclosure often leads to hotels making up rules and causing much more
trouble than needed. I do suggest that you go to the NAGDU web site and
print out a copy of the Montana law to carry with you.

Also, travel with confidence. Do not go expecting trouble. Most often you
will find accepting staff. While some do not know their local laws and the
ADA, most do. If you have a problem simply stand confident and firm, but
not in an antagonistic manner.

Go planning and expecting a GREAT trip and you will probably have one.

Best,

Hi, all,

Quesiton for you.

I have posted before that my husband and myself, along with Jenny, are going
on a trip to Montana in a few weeks. I doublechecked my reservation
confirmation email from the hotel, and right at the bottom, it says no pets.

Now, I realize Jenny is not a pet... we all know this. I am debating
whether or not to disclose the fact that she is my guide dog now, or wait
until we arrive at the hotel. Does anyone have any advice? I realize I am
not obligated to notify the hotel, but I don't want to wind up stranded in
Montana and having to pay for alternate accommodations (worst-case scenario,
I know). We have stayed at this hotel before and had a wonderful
experience, but this was before I trained with Jenny.

I would love any opinions!

Daryl
