ST. ANN, Mo. - Police say a driver hit a blind woman and her service dog,
and did not stop to help.

This is a crime that has officers so upset that they're coming in on their
day off to work the case and check on the victim and her dog. They are
hoping the public can help.

Police say the accident happened this past Tuesday, around 8 p.m., when
Stephanie McDowell was walking on St. Gregory Lane, near the intersection of
St. Charles Rock Road. That's when they say a driver of a small, dark
colored SUV hit McDowell and her service dog.

McDowell has injuries to her legs, and ribs, and bruises all over her body.
It's hard for her to just walk to the car to make it to the doctor, and
she's worried her dog is hurt, too. Without him, she will lose a lot of
independence.

There are a lot of unanswered questions in this case, but from an
investigative standpoint, there is surveillance video from some traffic
cameras and security cameras from nearby businesses.

If you have any information about this case, call St. Ann police.
