even at the america's guide dog conference, when they go around the room and everyone gives out their dog's name.  when the mike comes to me i simply say; i am Vivianna and i have a german shepherd.
blind folks are no different than sighted folks.  they all know that the dog is guiding but, they are just as likely to talk to the dog, try and pet it, etc.
