[nagdu] Blind pedestrian struck, killed while walking with guide dog in Maine

I am not in anyway trying to justify what this person did, but I would like
to point out a few things. First, the article did say that the driver stayed
until help arrived, which is much better than most of the other incidents
that make the news, which seem to be mostly hit and run. Second, although
this does not mean that it was not so, the article did not say that the
driver was speeding. A driver does not have to be speeding for accidents to
happen. Finally, anyone who has ridden in a car and/or knows anything about
physics knows that cars don't exactly stop on a dime and that slamming on
the breaks can just cause more problems, such as skidding. So, no, I am not
trying to defend the driver, but, before throwing all kinds of accusations
about the driver, consider all of the factors.

Tracy,
I totally agree with what you said. It also seems to be even less of a big
deal if the pedestrian is blind or deafblind. Because what are we doing out
alone without our keepers, anyway? And surely we *did* something and getting
hit or killed was our fault. It really makes me angry to see these drivers
get off scott free or with a slap on the wrist.

that didn't stop him barrelling along. I guess slowing down or stopping
when you can't see and fixing the problem would be un-American, unmanly, or
something. And, of course, since it was only a pedestrian he killed, no
harm, no foul, go on about your business, sir.

deaths. They've put in slower speed limits on some streets, and instituted
bigger fines for hitting someone. Good on them.

frightened. I guess it behooves us all to be very careful when walking.
