I think you are right Jewel,
You will have to practice having the dog meeting people.
When I work with my pet dogs on changing their behavior. We have a Rat Terrier. and when she jumps she can fly over 5 feet in the air. so if you bend down to say hi when she jumps , you have a face full of dog.
I do the same thing Jewel says to do , but I also add a verbal cue to tell the dog quickly that they are starting to do the wrong thing. When I come in they want to jump, I stop and told them to sit. I then give them a bit to see if they will listen, they sit and I start to go to pet them and if the but comes off the grown, I stop and will say Aah, Aah, and wait till they sit again. I try it again.
I don't tell them NO because they got NO to death.
Now when I come home, they come up and I stop and they realize they are to sit and I don't have to tell them anything.
we mostly have the dogs sit before we pet them. or give them treats, that way they do start to learn that if they want something they have to sit for it.
good luck to you and it may take time, don't give up.
Barb

Maybe you could practice him approaching, and if she gets overexcited, as Faye does about my partner, have him cross his arms and not interact with her. If she doesn't calm down, he should turn his back until she does. If she gets up when he turns back, rinse and repeat. As soon as she is able to remain calm and seated, reward. Repeat as many times as needed over several days.
Just what I remember doing with my partner,
Jewel

I have stood over her (her body laying down, one foot on either side of her), and that seems to help, but she still really really really wants to see him. I do see improvement every time she knows she's not going to get what she wants (if she acts like this, she won't get her harness off to say hi in the car, for example), but any other advice would be helpful!
