Vivianna,

The problem with an interest baring savings account for veterinarian 
expenses is that if someone is on SSI the money in the savings account would 
count against the asset cap.



The other problem is the temptation to dip into that money for other 
emergency expenses. For instance if it's January and the furnace dies or the 
transmission in the family car goes dead you have to have the discipline to 
not touch the "dog fund." The benefit of a low deductible high cap pet 
health insurance is that it eliminates both of the above problems.
