[nagdu] Food /water before air travel

Now that I think about it... it totally depends on the flight.
I have flown from Edmonton to Montreal. Direct, it's about 4.5-5 hours; with stops it's about 6. I flew there on a morning flight and since we had a 1 hour layover at a smaller airport I had time to take her to relieve; I limited her water, and gave her half her breakfast before we left and the rest on the plane. The flight back was basically direct, and we had no problems leaving in the evening; during the day I took her out to relieve a bit more frequently and limited her water that day as well... can't remember if I fed her on the plane or just before we took off.
Now that I know my dog a lot better, I am not going to be a worrywart; we'll be flying to NYC (4.5hr flight there, 5hr flight back). I will restrict the water, but not the food... she is also a very patient girl when it comes to relieving; more than once she's decided she doesn't have to relieve after 6 hours.

Unless I’m flying in the evening, I don’t feed my dog the morning of a flight. They really won’t starve to death if they miss a meal, or have to make up a meal later or something. Water, similarly, should be limited, just make sure you empty your dog out as much as possible before you get on the plane. While there are relief areas in a lot of airports, well…I’ve never used one. No, take it back, I did use one once, but mostly, my connections are too short to be able to.
