The problem with most products designated for pets is that they were
formerly  sold for human use, but were dubbed harmful and/or
ineffective for people. It's the same thing that happens with junk pet
food. Pretty much all the stuff in those packaged pet foods are the
stuff that is not for human consumption.
Personally, I do not use anything on my dog that I would not use on
myself in the same way. When I used to give fish oil, I used
human-grade stuff and it worked just fine. If there are ingredients in
it that dogs shouldn't have, you probably shouldn't have it either.
There are a few exceptions, emphasis on the few.
