[nagdu] Intro and a Uber question

Hialeah and Greg,
Amber here. I just wanted to share, Aleeha, that there is, in fact, a way to communicate with the driver, as I explained any previous message to Greg. There is a button, labeled trip actions, which will allow you to either call or message the driver.

Under trip actions, there is a button called contact driver. You may activate this button, and obtain the options call or message. At that point, you would be able to let the driver know, if you wish, whatever you wish.
Hope this helps,
Amber

Although there is no way to alert the driver that you have a service dog, the app is able to tell you when the driver is close, so you will at least know if or when the driver decides to drive away from you if you have a dog.

>> Hello all,
>> I am brand new to the list and so thought I would drop a note to introduce myself and ask my first question. My name is Greg and I’m a teacher of blind students in the Atlanta, GA area. I am currently working with my second guide, a golden retriever named Nikon from the Seeing Eye. I look forward to connecting with other guide dog users and learning from the community.

>> As to my question, my apologies if this has been covered previously. I have just signed up for Uber and would like to use the service. Do the same ADA laws that apply to taxis also apply to Uber? I have run into enough friction in my area from uneducated cab drivers that I generally try to notify the cab dispatch that I have a service animal when I request a ride so that I don’t have to argue with cab drivers when they arrive. Is there a way to notify the Uber driver ahead of time that I have a service animal? Do others on this list recommend disclosing that I have a dog ahead of time or not? I am open to feedback.
