Guide Dogs for the Blind is proud to announce that Christine Benninger has
been appointed CEO of Guide Dogs. Chris' experience from the non-profit and
for-profit sectors will help Guide Dogs for the Blind continue as a leader
and innovator in its field.
"Chris is a strategic, compassionate, and compelling leader, who is well
suited to help GDB fulfill our mission of empowering lives by creating
exceptional partnerships between people, dogs, and communities," says Jay
Harris, head of GDB's CEO search committee.
Among her many accomplishments, Chris has spent 17 years leading the Humane
Society Silicon Valley where her progressive approach helped save the lives
of tens of thousands of animals and greatly reduce pet overpopulation
problems in Santa Clara County. Under her leadership, the organization was
also able to raise $25.5 million to build The Animal Community Center -- the
first facility of its kind in the country.
Chris' first day will be April 7th. Interim President and CEO, Bob Burke,
will help lead the onboarding and transition process
and will then return to his role as Chair of the GDB Board.
"I am thrilled to have been chosen as the next CEO for Guide Dogs for the
Blind. It's an amazing organization and it's such an honor to be part of its
team," says Chris.
Guide Dogs for the Blind works with a robust network of trainers, puppy
raisers, donors, and volunteers, to prepare highly qualified guide dogs to
serve and empower individuals who are blind or have low vision. For more
