Darla,
The treats which killed Bristol and which made Laveau sick did not say made in China. They actually said made in America. Because of packaging rules, the place where the final steps are to make and package treats are considered the country in which they were made. I read labels very carefully, and the treats I was giving had duck or chicken, vitamin e and that's it. they looked good to me. Hindsight is always 20 20 and if I had it to do again, I would not feed my dog store bought treats. I will live with the guilt of my actions for the rest of my life. And the only thing I can do now is to take care of Laveau as best as I can, and to never feed store bought treats and to tell as many people as I can.
I have since bought a dehydrator, and my dogs either get treats I make from dried meat or veg and fruit or string cheese which I also eat.
hugs

> The FDA has been aware of pet health concerns related to China-made jerky pet treats since 2007 and has been investigating. They have not yet issued any formal recall. Concerns, though, are mounting.
>
> On May 16, 2014, the FDA published an updated report, titled, "Questions and Answers Regarding Jerky Pet Treats." In it, the FDA reviews the issue, offers tips for pet owners and outlines how to submit a report of suspected illness. Click here to read this FDA report.

> According to the new report, as of May 1, 2014, the FDA has received pet illness reports for more than 5,600 dogs and 24 cats. These include more than 1,000 canine deaths. 3 human illnesses have also been reported.

> "We don't know exactly what's happening but we do think there is some connection with illness in dogs and China jerky treats," says SAGE internal veterinary medicine specialist Heidi McClain, DVM, DACVIM. "Why take the risk? I don't think there is any reason to feed jerky treats from China at all."
