[nagdu] How to Get a Dog Used to Teeth Brushing

What school is your dog from? Would they pay for the teeth cleaning? It is
my understanding that dog teeth cleaning is similar to human teeth cleaning
in that, once there is a certain amount of build up on the teeth, regular
brushing will not remove it, and, even if you do brush your dog's teeth from
the beginning, there will come a time when the dog will need a teeth
cleaning. As far as other alternatives, there are various dental bones,
dental treats, and dental food. I have heard that, if you use a dental food,
the chunks need to be big enough that they will cover the entire tooth and
not shatter immediately.

Subject: [nagdu] How to Get a Dog Used to Teeth Brushing

Hi, Everyone.
I took Peg in for her semi-annual vaccination today and the vet said she'd
need to go in for professional teeth-cleaning, complete with general
anesthesia. I don't have the money in my budget for it, so opted instead to
buy a toothbrush and doggie toothpaste.

How do I go about getting her acclimated to teeth brushing?

Or ... is there another alternative to teeth brushing? The vet said I should
start with running my finger across her teeth, but Peg doesn't like me to
get my hand near her mouth unless I've got a doggie treat in it. *sigh*

Would appreciate any ideas.

Thanks,
Dani
