Mardi hear from Arizona.I am an owner trainer and I do teach leash
guiding.I did not use to teach it, but one day, coming back from the
grocery store,my wheelchair loaded down with grocery bags, I could not
reach the guide handle.I had no other way to get home,so I trusted Nala to
get me home with just the leash. She did a great job of guiding me and we
even had a traffic check. She got me out of the way of a car that did not
stop at a stop sign.Nala had not been trained to leash guide but she did it
on her own. Nala was one of those dogs' that was smart enough and confident
enough to take the initiative and just do what was needed. I now train all
my dogs to leash guide because I never know when it will be needed. I don't
use it often but I do use it when I need to.My dogs always have a harness
on when in public. But if my harness should break or need repairing, I know
my dogs could still guide me with out the harness. It is MY opinion that it
is a good thing for my dogs to know. Remember,JMHO! Mardi and Shaman and
Neechee.
