[nagdu] just when you think you've heard it all

And a dog isn't experimental, the methods that have consistently worked for
blind people to navigate their environment are the cane and the dog and they
will remain. If you want to be totally analytical about it, you can say that
both have advantages and disadvantages.
None of them will replace sight as long as the environment is geared to
people who see: something that will of course not change because most people
see.
For my money a dog that has the basic good guide training and is bonded to
you beats a cane in most circumstances paws down, but I have always been a
firm believer in everyone doing what they feel is best for them.
We all realize I think what works for us.
I can enumerate the circumstances where I think a dog beats the cane but
then again someone who is a cane fanatic will probably come out here and
tell me I'm full of it--smile. And that's the problem with the whole
cane-dog thing.
So I'm for letting it rest but I realize we all need to air concerns or
feelings sometimes too.
Using a guide dog also brings with it a whole array of emotions because
after all dogs are living things and most of us feel something for our dogs,
I feel love for each dog I have had,
Dan the man, Parker the hound dog--lol

Hi Buddy, I agree, but I don't think canes can be considered experimental,
either. Some of the cool tech wayfinding stuff is
experimental, but fun. (Smile). Debby and Neena
