Teresa,
Welcome to the list!
My name is Daryl. I am working with my first guide, Jenny, a black Lab from BC/AB Guide Dogs in Canada. We have been partnered for just about a year - she was placed with me Aug 31, and graduated training Oct 3.

How old is Fenway? Where are you from? How did you choose him?

Whenever I meet someone with a guide dog, I ask them three questions:
What's something your guide does really well? What's one bad habit they have? What is something they do that makes you smile?
Jenny can find an escalator at a hundred paces. I can always tell she has one in her sights because she quickens her pace and wags her tail. She LOVES escalators! In the absence of escalators, she'll take me to an elevator; I have, with only 1-2 exceptions, never had trouble going from one floor to another over the past year.
her bad habit? Jenn is a scroungy head! If it looks yummy, she'll try and grab it. It's worse after a big rain, or in a new place we've never been before. We do a ton of obedience sessions and games to help improve this.

Something she does that's cute? She will always show off her bones if she's got them. It's not enough for her to be happy to have them, but she'll put her nose in the air and all but juggle the bone and show me and my husband that she's got it!

That's me and my dog! :)

Daryl and Jenny, who is thrilled she has a playdate with her brother today!

Subject: [nagdu] Introducing myself

Hello to all! I just joined the list and decided to introduce myself.
My name is Teresa and I am currently starting the process of
owner-training a yelow male labrador named Fenway to be my guide dog.
I would really love to get to know all of you and learn from your
experiences, but I would especially love to get in touch with other
list members who have owner trained their dogs with or without help of
a professional trainer, as I'm new to the whole process and would love
to hear their experience. My email address is teresavg30 at gmail.com I'm
glad to meet all of you and thank you for accepting me as a member!
