Hi Marion, the only reason I ever tell is when I think that I 
might get a spot with more room for my dog.  I do care about her 
comfort, since she's guiding me to places, and is my 
responsibility.  So when I fly, ow tell them so that they don't 
seat me in the aisle, which I refuse to sit in since my dog could 
get stepped on, or run over by the galley cart.    Peace,
