[nagdu] An airline question

Front to back, is that what I understood you say Michael. My first dog a
small golden retriever was fussing and fussing. His but was under the seat.
I got on the floor to see why this quiet dog was fussing so much. The lady
ahead of me was digging her high heels into my dog's back. I told her nicely
that there was a dog under her seat and she stopped. My dog lay quietly, so
I know she stopped even though she said nothing.

Only once was I on the isle with my dog, a good sized golden retriever,
Baxter. The flight attendant was so kind and moved his feathering out of the
isle. He curled up and his nose was on my foot facing the isle. Nothing but
smiles and awe came from the passengers and flight attendants. There were
two others in the row beside me. This was American Airlines, I am pretty
sure anyway as that is what we flew all the time for business.

On a commuter jet they tried to stick my good sized golden on the isle, ur,
um, that isn't going to work. So the man next to me was reseated and Baxter
lay comfortably in the row and my feet sort of fit also, giggle.

Debbie,

You already have received several good comments. All I will add is that
under the regulations a guide dog cannot block the main aisle. Personally, I
use non bulkhead seats and put Africa under the seat in front of me facing
from front to back. I have seen 100LB dogs assume this position.

Best,

Michael Hingson

Subject: [nagdu] An airline question

Hi all, someone in the National Federation of the Blind of Washington sent
out an email asking if there are any regulations that say that dogs cannot
sit in aisle seating. Does anyone know if there are such regulations? They
claimed that in the case of evacuation his dog would block the window seat
passenger from getting out. This was apparently on a Jet Blue flight from
New York to Seattle. Since I prefer the window seat, I've never had this
question asked of me. And I have had to sit in the middle.
So I would have blocked the person by the window, using Jet
Blue's logic. So any help I could get on this would be great.
Peace, Debby
