Jennifer,
My puppy is from guide dog foundation, their policy is that, we do not publicize the puppies name on social media until the puppy raisers have been notified of the match. after that then we are allowed to tell whomever we want and how.
I have taken this a step further, and i will not publicly right about my puppy's name. I am also deaf blind, so that if someone calls my puppy's name, she will get very distracted very easily.
This is a very personal choice for everyone. With my last dog, I gave everyone and anyone her name, and this did not work to my advantage.
For those of us who choose not to give out our names, we should not feel badly or pressured to provide our puppies name. Now, there are people in my life, who are on this list, who know my dogs name, but I have asked that they not publicly say her name on list or in person.
like I said it's a personal choice, and one that I have chosen not to share my puppy's name with the world.

But, I am not sure I really like the policies that some schools have about withholding a new dog's name. I think that the decision of when and even if you do want to share your dog's name with others should be up to the handler, not the school.
