[nagdu] Just saw this: Guide dogs and athletes

Hi all,

I'm not a runner, but I can run with my dog and enjoy jogging with
him. You are correct that the dog's pace is often a quick walk while
the person is running. Bill is barely trotting while I jog at my
pace. (I'm short and run slow.)

If my dog needs to do a clearance he slows down or moves out of the
way long before the clearance becomes a problem. He knows when he
needs to slow down, and I have never had trouble with this. I did
some of this in training, and running with him taught me that not only
could I move fast with a dog again, but I could also relearn how to
properly control a dog's speed. After what I had endured with my
first dog, these are things I had to relearn. Incidentally, I worked
with the trainer who trained that dog in the article about Guiding
Eyes.
