Never really realized that's what I was doing... I suppose it is helpful when the behavior is something the dog is willing or wanting to do anyway.

I think jenny picks up when she shakes in an inopportune place.  Last summer, we walked to a coffee shop, and I set a water bowl down for her.  Jenn drank some, then lay down, with her ear soaking in the water dish!  When we got up to go, Jenny stood up and shook SO hard that droplets of water went flying everywhere!
I have never laughed so hard at her in harness, and thankfully there was no one who got totally drenched, but the group at a nearby table thought it was likewise hilarious!

Daryl, I did that with Mitzi, too, and encouraged her to shake before going in if we were under a marquis or something by praising her when she did it naturally.
