[nagdu] differences between service dogs and pets

my guide dog is here because i choose to use a dog as my mobility aid. she is expected to behave herself, even at home and out of harness. no jumping, no eating things off the floor or whereever, no climbing on the furniture, no barking unless someone is at the door.
yes, pets are almost always misbehaved. all the years i have had guides, and, this is my sixth dog, not once have i been at someone’s home where they had enough control of their pet that they did not have to lock it away somewhere.
also, if you have a pet dog, you just put it outside for a few hours or so and don’t think of it. not so a guide. you should be picking up after that dog in order to keep track of it’s health.
having a guide is very different than having a pet. my guide is very rarely more than 15 feet away from me, ever. even at home, she stays near me. and, i am one of those who doesn’t let folks who visit treat her as a pet.
i could probably think of more things but… lol.
