[nagdu] Flat curbs

When I got dogs from San Rafael, where there were a lot of flat curbs, the
dogs were very good with them. I think they looked at the color change,
because they would sometimes stop for a color change on the sidewalk, in
case it was a curb.
I think Krokus and I only encountered one flat curb in Morristown, and he
did well with it, but it was on a route he'd been trained on. Here, we have
very few, and most of the ones we do have have the foot braille (great term,
Rox), and he stops for that.

Raven,
I'm also curious about this. My neighborhood is full of these curbs, and my
dogs are trained with them from the start, so I would not expect them to
have trouble. I'm wondering if dogs who are trained with the standard cut
curbs get much exposure to the blended curbs. Also, I wonder if, in their
dog mind, they relate stoping with a change in elevation and not with color,
or contrast. I think my dogs do like you suggest, and stop for color from
sidewalk to street, or they will always stop on the foot braille/ trunkated
domes.

I'm just not clear on the kind of training programs put into this skill.
