[nagdu] Allergies and Dog Foods Dog

I agree with Raven. The more closely a dog's food mimics what he is
biologically designed to eat, the healthier he generally is. Every
company that produces a product uses advertising, it is not just
limited to the so called healthier foods. The larger the company, the
more resources they have to advertise. This does not provide them with
any credibility.

Vets usually do not have strong backgrounds in nutrition, just as
human general care physicians only have limited knowledge on human
nutrition. Although a vet's advice can be valuable, it is up to the
owner to decide what food is best for her dog. It is the owner's
responsibility to research the ingredients and there sources, not to
just feed any brand of food that they have seen an advertisement for.
Higher quality foods are generally more expensive, but this is not
necessarily so. Switching both of my dogs diets to a more expensive,
higher quality food actually saved me money in the long run, since
neither of them require frequent vet visits for chronic ear infections
any longer.

I am not implying that people who feed kibble do not care for their
dogs. My guide eats a combination of kibble and freeze-dried food and
my pet eats exclusively freeze-dried, so I understand why some people
are not willing or able to feed raw. I am saying only that everyone
has the responsibility to feed the best diet they are able to provide
for their dog.

As Julie said, Raven's posts are factual accounts of her experiences
with her own dog and contain links to research which support her
position. This is something I look for when trying to find a credible
source of information. Someone who tries to live a natural lifestyle
is not a "health nut", she is simply trying to create the best
environment for herself and her dog.
