We have looked at her eyes and ears and don't notice antyhing concerned, but I think I might be more inclined to think that it's an ear condition. The last 24 hours, I have noticed her shaking her head slightly more often than usual, startling at sounds a couple of times... slightly seeming off-balance.

Last week while we were walking, a dog barked at her, and she whined, almost like she was distracted by it... but the dog was inside, and she has NEVER reacted to a dog barking at her from inside. But the pitch was a lower one, which seems to be the sounds she is startling at. Wondering if it hurt her ears?

The school believes this is entirely behavioral, and these other things (the head-shaking, startling, balance) are so minor that I haven't put it all together...

Hmmmmm...

Calling the vet now.

Could Jenny have an eye injury of some sort? Perhaps she's not seeing things as clearly on her left side, so she's startled by or suspicious of them? Hello! After a bit of a rough weekend, I think I have figured out the pattern of Jenny's barking. IF she is going to bark, it will be at someone approaching us from her left side. This happened twice today, which is increasing the frequency of her barking at someone. On the plus side, I seem to be able to quiet her much more quickly and react less strongly. While waiting for a store to open this morning, I had her sit and wait, and she kept constantly looking over to her left. She barked at no one indoors, but kept looking left, even as she was guiding. This seems to be a new behavior, though historically, she has been reactive to stimulus or people on her left on previous occasions. I am thinking I might book a vet appointment to see if there's a medical reason... with all the ice, snow, and grime flying around with our melt, I want to rule out a medical cause. Any pointers on what to do in the meantime while I work on this and await answers?
